The foundation of the DPRK on the 9th September 1948 was the dawn of a new era for the Korean people, their aspirations and hope for peace, independence, freedom and prosperity was based on their trust and confidence of General Kim IL Sung and the formation of the DPRK was the beginning of a new life.

After forty long years of suffering under Japanese Militarist Rule and with the liberation of Korea on the 15th August 1945 the Korean people had many reasons to be joyous and confident about the future. However that confidence was being undermined by the forces of evil as a result of the agenda of the US Military occupying forces in the South.

Fearful that a united Korea would be under the leadership of General Kim IL Sung the US Military established a puppet regime in the South under a false UN flag and installed Syngman Rhee as the President of the South.

To counter these sinister developments by the US Military General Kim IL Sung called a joint conference of representatives of political parties and public organisations in North and South and advanced the policy of founding a unified country on the Korean peninsula without delay. This was for overcoming the danger of national division and achieved the country’s independence.

On August 25th 1948 the election of deputies to the Supreme People’s Assembly was held in all parts of North and South Korea. The whole nation responded with enthusiasm. In the North 99.97% of voters participated in the elections and in the South 77.52% of the electorate participated despite the reactionary repression they confronted, as a result, 572 candidates from all walks of life from the north and south were elected.

Following the success of the historic North "South elections, the first session of the Supremes Peoples Assembly was held in Pyongyang in September 1948 and on September 9th the formation of the DPRK which represented the will of the Korean people was announced with Kim IL Sung being elected Premier of the Cabinet and head of State.

With the formation of the Peoples Republic the country landscape underwent a huge political, economic and cultural change. Land reform was introduced and distributed to peasants, Industry and key sectors of the economy nationalised democratic institutions where established Trade Unions, Women organisations and other mass organisations.

However this peaceful transition of freedom and rebuilding their shattered economy was short lived and on the 23rd June 1950 the Korean people where once again defending their freedom and Independence against the military might of US Imperialism and the puppet forces of the South. By July 1953 the KPA and the Korean people under the wise leadership of General Kim IL Sung and the WPK where victorious in the Fatherland Liberation War and inflicted a huge defeat on the military might of US Imperialism.

With the speed of Chomilla they rebuilt their shattered land restored the economy, however in the early nineties with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the other socialist countries the balanced of world forces significantly changed. The DPRK stood almost alone and world imperialism eagerly waited for its collapse, but, there was no collapse, how and why could this be.

Until the end of the 20th century, many people did not have a proper understanding of socialism. So they thought that all the socialist countries were identical. But as they witnessed the eye-opening reality of socialist Korea which remained unperturbed and was advancing invariably in the midst of successive collapse of socialism in the former Soviet Union and other East European countries, they came to have a fresh understanding of socialism of the DPRK.

What caught the attention of the international society was the fact that it is people-centred socialism guided by the Juche idea, which was created by President KIM IL SUNG.

The President, for the first time in history, clarified the truth that man is the most precious being in the world and the motive force of social history is the masses of the people, and applied the theory in a comprehensive way in the practice of socialist construction. Thus a society that respects the people has been built in the DPRK.

Today the US, Japan and other capitalist countries are clamouring for "Human rights" and "respect for personality." But in the capitalist society, where money decides the dignity, personality and other virtues unique to man, the clamour by the privileged is no more than a sophistry for making a mockery of the people and covering up the true colours of their rule and exploitation.

However in the socialist society of the DPRK, ordinary workers and farmers take part in policy making of the country; all the people, on stable jobs, are engaged in worthwhile and creative labour; they enjoy cultural and leisure activities to their heart's content in palaces, halls of culture, recreation grounds, holiday camps and resting places built by the state.

To build this people-centred socialism unique in the world, KIM IL SUNG devoted his whole life. There was no holiday or day off for him; he worked even on his birthdays.

He put forward lines and policies and continued his field guidance trips in order to bring happiness to his people and realize their centuries-old desires.

Rain or shine, he went to many places where his people were, and shared joy and sorrow with them. So the people call his field guidance "people-bound train."

Thanks to his tireless efforts, a society that respects people, people-centred socialism of the Korean style, was built, and a firm foundation for eternal prosperity of the people was established.
The exploits of KIM IL SUNG, who taught the progressive humankind the genuine way of building a new society by establishing people-centred socialism and inspired many revolutionaries of the world with hope, conviction and courage, will go down in history as a great and true revolutionary. [kk]
